The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) recently hosted a high-level Conference titled ‘The Future of Textiles: Challenges and Opportunities in Man-Made Fibres at PHD House, New Delhi, spotlighting India's roadmap to boost its man-made fibre (MMF) sector critical for strengthening the country’s yarn and textile value chain.

Madhu Sudhan Bhageria, Chair of PHDCCI Textile Committee and CMD of Filatex India, opened the event by stressing the need for a resilient and sustainable fibre ecosystem. He called for cohesive national strategies to boost MMF capacity, citing China’s global dominance in polyester as a benchmark.

Ashok Malhotra, Mission Director of the National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM), highlighted India’s potential in technical textiles and niche exports. He urged greater market penetration of MMFs and underlined NTTM’s role in fostering indigenous production. Industry voices including Sanjay Sharma (BMD), Rajeev Gupta (RSWM), and Jitender Kumar Gupta (BIS) emphasized aligning innovation, standardization, and policy support to build a competitive MMF and yarn industry.

Over 80 delegates participated, with expert presentations covering innovation, compliance, and sustainability across the MMF-to-yarn value chain. The conference underscored collaborative efforts needed to expand India’s footprint in global synthetic yarn markets and accelerate growth in MMF-based exports.
