India strengthens silk industry with Rs 1,074.94 cr support under Silk Samagra-2

The government is boosting growth in the sericulture industry through the Silk Samagra-2 scheme, which will increase silk productivity and enhance farmer’s and weavers livelihoods. So far, Rs 1,074.94 crore has been allocated to state governments, benefiting around 78,000 stakeholders by supporting critical field-level interventions.
Silk Samagra-2 focuses on making India self-reliant in silk production by enhancing bivoltine silk output to meet international standards and increasing exports. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of positioning India as a global leader in silk manufacturing and trade.
Additionally, under the National Handloom Development Programme and the Raw Material Supply Scheme, the government provides crucial support to handloom workers, including those in the silk sector. Investments in quality improvement, infrastructure, research and development, and market expansion further reinforce India's commitment to strengthening its silk industry.
Through a multi-pronged approach, the government aims to elevate silk exports, reduce import dependence, and create a sustainable ecosystem for sericulture. With ongoing support and strategic initiatives, India is steadily advancing towards its goal of becoming a dominant player in the global silk market.
