Indian government aims to boost textile sector with 4.5-6 crore jobs by 2030

Indian government has outlined ambitious plans to revitalize the textile sector and create a significant number of jobs. Union minister Giriraj Singh announced that a roadmap has been prepared to generate between 4.5 and 6 crore jobs in the sector by 2030. The ambitious plan also seeks to grow the sector's market size to $350 billion from the current $165 billion.

To achieve these goals, the government has approved seven PM-MITRA integrated mega textile parks, which are expected to attract investments worth Rs 70,000 crore and generate 2.1 million jobs.

Singh emphasized the government's commitment to promoting domestic textile production, highlighting the challenges posed by growing domestic demand and international competition. Despite a decline in textile exports in recent years, the government remains optimistic about achieving its target of $100 billion in exports by 2030. To address these challenges, the government is implementing various initiatives, including the revival of traditional silk industries like Bhagalpur's and promoting ‘Make in India’ for the textile sector.
