Indonesia's textile industry on the brink due to illegal imports
Indonesia’s textile industry is facing a severe crisis with the release of 26,000 containers of illegal imports. The Indonesian Filament Fibre & Yarn Producers Association (APSyFI) accuses the government of legalizing smuggled goods. Thousands of job losses and factory closures have ensued, with the industry pleading for transparency on the container contents.
APSyFI blames economic affairs minister Airlangga Hartarto and finance minister Mulyani for the situation, demanding immediate action to protect the domestic textile sector from unfair competition.
