Invista secures patent for nylon recycling, boosting sustainability
Invista has secured a patent for a nylon recycling process that enhances the availability of high-quality post-industrial recycled (PIR) feedstock for nylon 6,6 manufacturing. The company has also filed a second patent application for a process enabling up to 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in nylon 6,6 production, further advancing sustainability in polymer applications.
These innovations align with Invista’s Stewardship Framework, focusing on optimizing resource use and expanding recycling capabilities. Jerry Grunewald, Invista’s vice president of research and development, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting customers in achieving their sustainability and carbon reduction goals through advanced recycling technologies.
Beyond its internal efforts, Invista is collaborating with technology leaders and startups working on nylon 6,6 depolymerization. Leveraging its expertise in chemical intermediates and polymerization, the company is accelerating external innovations while seeking new partnerships.
Grunewald emphasized Invista’s commitment to advancing nylon 6,6 recycling through its patent and ongoing collaborations. He highlighted that the company is well-positioned to drive these developments both internally and with external partners. By investing in emerging technologies, Invista continues to play a key role in shaping a more sustainable future for nylon 6,6 manufacturing.
