Karnataka to develop Rs 27-crore textile park in Udipi
The Karnataka government has approved the plan to develop a textile park in Karkala, Udipi district. To be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model at a cost of Rs 27-crore, the park is will be a hub of economic activity in the region. The project will generate job opportunities for locals and promote industrial growth in the district.
The project was initially announced by former state government in budget 2020-21. However, delays in securing approvals and funding had put it in limbo. However, renewed efforts were made by V Sunil Kumar, former Energy and Kannada Culture Minister, as he laid the foundation stone for the park in March 2023.
Once completed, the textile park is expected to house several units dedicated to textile manufacturing and processing, offering facilities for spinning, weaving, and garment production. It is set to attract both local and national investors, fostering innovation and sustainable practices in the textile industry.
Located in the Udupi district, known for its skilled labor and proximity to key transportation routes, the Karkala textile park will boost industrial development in the state.
