Kraig Labs blends spider silk with cotton for luxurious fabrics.

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories (KBLB) unveiled its first premium yarn, combining lab-made spider silk with Pima Cotton. This innovative blend signifies the company's push for vertical integration in the textile industry, targeting high-end markets like luxury apparel.

The yarn, a 100 per cent natural composite, merges the strength and performance of spider silk with the softness and breathability of Pima Cotton. Developed in collaboration with a leading yarn spinner, it aims to elevate dresswear and formal attire.

CEO Kim Thompson says this is just the beginning of a significant transformation. He sees spider silk revolutionizing various materials, with Pima Cotton serving as an excellent inaugural partner.

KBLB plans to expand its natural fiber blends beyond luxury wear. However, technical applications like defensive textiles and performance apparel remain a core focus. Spring production trials are underway, with the company actively seeking commercialization avenues for its spider silk technology.
