Madhya Pradesh cotton procurement doubles, reaches 12 lakh quintals

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has significantly increased cotton procurement in Madhya Pradesh, reaching 12 lakh quintals, double the previous year's amount. Starting in October 2024, CCI has been purchasing cotton from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), with 21 procurement centres set up across the state to facilitate the process.
For the 2024-25 season, MSP for medium-staple and long-staple cotton is set at $86.84 and $91.72 per quintal, respectively. Due to lower market prices, traders reported that CCI has bought approximately 80 per cent of the cotton entering the markets this season.
Kailash Agrawal, a cotton trader and farmer, attributed the higher procurement to a good production year and improved per-hectare yields. In contrast to previous years, farmers have shown eagerness to sell early in the season, taking advantage of favorable MSP rates and securing better prices for their crops.
