Maharashtra procures 44 lakh quintals of cotton at MSP, assures continued support

The Maharashtra government has procured 44 lakh quintals of cotton through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) as of March 18, ensuring farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP), Marketing Minister Jaykumar Rawal informed the Legislative Council on Thursday.
Rawal assured cotton procurement remains active, with 124 centres operational across the state. This year, the MSP for long-staple cotton is Rs 7,521 per quintal, while medium-staple cotton is priced at Rs 7,121 per quintal. Cotton processing follows agreements spanning September to September annually. Reaffirming their commitment to boost farmer’s incomes, the government is focusing on irrigation expansion, infrastructure development, and better market access. Maharashtra is also the first state to introduce a private market committee policy to streamline agricultural trade.
