Nigeria is taking steps to revive its ailing cotton and textile industry, aiming to create over 1.4 million jobs annually. Vice President Kashim Shettima met the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) to discuss strategies for revitalizing the sector.

The government seeks to rebuild the entire cotton value chain, from farming and ginning to weaving. Key stakeholders, including state governors and industry leaders, expressed their commitment to the initiative. Lagos and Imo states highlighted their potential roles in the revival.

Challenges such as smuggling, low yields, and inadequate power supply were acknowledged. However, there is optimism about the industry's potential to contribute significantly to Nigeria's economic growth and job creation.

The government and ICAC are committed to collaborating on boosting productivity, attracting investment, and re-establishing Nigeria as a major player in the global cotton industry.
