The Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) is hosting its Stakeholder Event India 2024 on November 27-28 in New Delhi. The event will gather farmers, brands, manufacturers, suppliers, and government representatives to discuss scaling organic cotton and strengthening its value chain.

OCA’s executive director, Bart Vollaard, highlighted India’s leadership in organic cotton production and the importance of collaboration to boost sustainable growth. OCA currently supports around 110,000 farmers across six states, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, producing over 102,000 metric tons of seed cotton last season.

The event will feature discussions on climate initiatives, direct-to-farm sourcing, and market trends. A delegation of 13 farmers will share their experiences, including insights on challenges and the impact of OCA’s Farm Programme. Participants will explore ways to enhance decent work and improve farmer livelihoods through premium payments and access to quality seeds.

Aligned with India’s 5F Initiative, OCA’s efforts focus on creating lasting value for farmers and addressing rising global demand for sustainable textiles. Key sponsors include Arvind, Pratibha Syntex, RSB Cottex, and Suminter India Organic. Farmers expressed hope for increased brand support and fair pricing for organic products, emphasizing OCA’s role in connecting small and tribal farmers to international markets.
