Odisha is set to make a significant stride towards sustainable textile manufacturing. A new greenfield spinning mill, the first in decades, will address the pressing issue of textile waste. The initiative, spearheaded by Odisha Textile Manufacturing Pvt Ltd (OTM), will not only manage post-industrial and municipal textile waste but also generate value from it.

Partnering with global leaders like Balkan Textile Machinery and Trutzschler, OTM aims to introduce cutting-edge recycling technologies. This will enable the efficient processing of textile waste, reducing reliance on landfills and incineration. Additionally, the mill will utilize advanced spinning technologies from Saurer AG to produce high-quality yarn.

One of the most promising aspects of this project is its potential to boost the local economy. By sourcing cotton directly from Odisha’s farmers, the mill will create a sustainable supply chain and stimulate the agricultural sector. This integrated approach will not only benefit the textile industry but also empower rural communities.

OTM’s initiative is poised to set a new benchmark for sustainable textile manufacturing in India. By addressing the environmental challenges associated with textile waste and promoting economic growth, this project has the potential to transform Odisha into a global leader in the sustainable textile industry.
