Odisha Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts department partners SJTA to supply Karuna Silk fabrics for Holy Trinity

The Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts department of Odisha has announced a partnership with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to regularly supply fabrics for the Holy Trinity, crafted from Karuna Silk. The department plans to provide Geeta Govinda Khandua Pata, made from this premium silk, for the Trinity’s attire.
This move was revealed during the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave-2025, where the department received investment intents totaling Rs 7,772 crore in the textiles and apparel sector. These investment pledges, made by 36 units, are expected to generate approximately 88,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state.
In addition to this collaboration, the department signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent companies, including Shri Maa Textiles, Maa Banadurga Textiles, Pratima Agro Spinning Mills, and others.
Two additional MoUs were signed with the Textile Committee and SIDBI to further bolster Odisha’s textile industry. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to fostering growth in the textile sector while promoting traditional crafts like Karuna Silk on a national and international scale.
