Pakistan Central Cotton Committee merged with PARC to boost cotton industry and research

The merger of the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) with the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) to create a dedicated Cotton Wing marks a major shift in Pakistan's cotton research and development. The initiative aims to centralize research efforts, improve coordination, and optimize resources for the cotton sector’s growth.

The Cotton Wing will focus on enhancing cotton production, quality, and disease resistance, addressing challenges like low yields and poor fiber quality. It will also target pest control, climate change impacts, and modernizing cotton farming techniques. Leveraging PARC’s infrastructure and international partnerships, the new unit will introduce cutting-edge technology and innovations.

In addition, the Cotton Wing will strengthen the entire cotton value chain, boosting the ginning, spinning, and garment industries. The initiative is expected to increase domestic production, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance textile exports, vital for Pakistan’s economy.

Furthermore, the merger will ensure better management of the cotton cess, funding long-term research initiatives with government support, creating a solid foundation for sustainable growth in the sector.
