Pakistan cotton output to drop.
Pakistan's cotton production is set to fall this year due to rising energy prices and financial costs, jeopardizing the crucial textile sector, a parliamentary committee warned. The government's $25 billion export target for the textile industry is now in doubt.
Lawmakers expressed alarm over the ongoing decline in cotton output and prices, urging immediate measures like subsidies and improved farming practices to revive the sector.
The committee criticized the suspension of only a few officials as insufficient punishment and called for action against key culprits. To combat smuggling of essential goods, they proposed a dedicated anti-smuggling unit.
