Pakistan's cotton yarn exports to China soar in Q1 2024

Pakistan's cotton yarn exports to China jumped 65.85 per cent in the first quarter of 2024, exceeding $166 million. This rise is attributed to China's growing demand for Pakistani textiles, driven by a balanced focus on exports and domestic consumption.

Pakistan, a leading cotton producer, has expanded its offerings to China beyond just yarn, now including cotton and Griege fabric. These products are gaining popularity due to their competitive prices and high quality.

While Pakistan has made strides in capturing a share of China's domestic market, challenges remain. High production costs and sluggish global demand pose hurdles. However, the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement offers significant opportunities.

Industry experts believe Pakistan can further capitalize on this agreement by supplying finished products to Chinese consumers. This diversification requires significant effort, but the potential rewards are substantial.

Despite zero tariffs on many Pakistani goods, products like home textiles and apparel haven't yet reached high sales volumes in China. Increased focus on these areas can unlock even greater success in the Chinese market.
