Pyratex launches Spain-grown cotton supply chain for sustainable textiles

Spanish textile innovator Pyratex has introduced a new zero km supply chain using cotton cultivated in Spain, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. While 99 per cent of global cotton comes from outside Europe primarily Asia, Spain and Greece contribute a small fraction. Pyratex has now built a local supply chain to reduce logistics and environmental impact.
The company sources cotton from 400 hectares in Seville and Cordoba, where it is harvested, ginned, and then spun and knitted in Portugal. By collaborating with local ginners, Pyratex minimizes transportation emissions and ensures full traceability. The cotton complies with strict EU regulations, making it GMO-free, labor law-compliant, and cultivated using water-efficient practices.
As part of this initiative, Pyratex has launched Pyratex Solea, a new fabric collection named after a traditional Andalusian flamenco style, honoring the region’s heritage. The company, known for its R&D-driven approach, specializes in eco-innovative textiles made from natural, bio-based, and recycled materials.
By localizing its cotton supply chain, Pyratex strengthens its mission to offer sustainable, transparent, and responsible alternatives to conventional textiles, setting a new standard for European fabric production.
