Rieter, the global leader in spinning systems for staple fiber yarn production, is marking 230 years of pioneering innovation in textile machinery. Founded on April 15, 1795, in Winterthur, Switzerland, by Johann Jacob Rieter, the company began as a trading house dealing in exotic spices and cotton. Just days later, the first cotton bale arrived at the Waaghaus trading house, setting the course for Rieter’s future in textiles.

Throughout the 19th century, Rieter transitioned into industrial machinery, expanding its portfolio to include spinning, knitting, and weaving machines. A major milestone came in 1891 with its conversion into a stock company. Over the decades, Rieter consistently set benchmarks in technology, becoming the first Swiss machine manufacturer to implement electronic data processing and build advanced research and testing facilities.

Despite global economic challenges, Rieter has maintained strategic focus, driving efficiency and innovation. With subsidiaries like Accotex, Bracker, Graf, Novibra, Suessen, SSM, and Temco, Rieter continues to lead in spinning mill technology.

Today, with 4,800 employees worldwide, Rieter is intensifying R&D in automation, robotics, and its digital platform Essential. By 2027, the company aims to fully automate yarn production, reinforcing its role as a key player in sustainable, intelligent textile manufacturing.
