SIMA: Exemption of Viscose Staple Fibre from QCO to boost exports
The Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA) Chairman S K Sundararaman welcomed the government’ decision of exempting Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) imports under the Advance Authorization Scheme from the Quality Control Order (QCO). This exemption, recently granted allows manufacturers to import VSF without mandatory BIS compliance if the purpose is to produce export goods. While SIMA appreciates the government's focus on quality control through QCOs, they believe this exemption for VSF imports under the Advance Authorization Scheme provides the flexibility needed to meet specific requirements of overseas buyers. This approach is a win-win situation for both VSF producers and users in the textile industry.
SIMA also emphasized the need for a similar notification for Polyester Fibre and its raw materials, considering its crucial role as the future growth engine for the Indian textile sector.
In essence, the Indian government is taking proactive steps to support the textile industry's growth through trade agreements, relaxed import regulations for specific scenarios, and a focus on quality control. These measures aim to enhance the industry's global competitiveness and achieve ambitious export targets.
