Surat’s nylon weavers seek relief from QCO implementation
Nylon weavers in Surat have urge textile ministry officials to visit the city and assess the potential impact of the upcoming Quality Control Order (QCO) for nylon. The industry is concerned that the new regulations could disrupt production and increase costs.
While the city is a major hub for nylon yarn and greige cloth in India, local weavers are worried about the quality and cost of domestic yarns. They argue that the quality of locally manufactured yarn is inferior to imported ones, which could hinder the production of high-quality fabrics. And local yarn is often more expensive, further eroding its competitiveness.
To ensure a smooth transition and maintain production standards, weavers are calling for expedited processing of BIS license applications for foreign suppliers of nylon yarn. They believe that access to high-quality imported yarn is crucial to meeting the stringent requirements of the QCO.
The Surat Nylon Weavers Association and the Pandesara Weavers Co-Op Society Ltd. have expressed their concerns to the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), which has taken up the matter with textile committee officials. The industry hopes that a swift resolution can be found to mitigate the potential negative impact of the QCO on nylon production in Surat.
