Surat’s weaving boom drives demand for high-quality yarn and looms

Surat’s weaving industry, powered by around 12-15 lakh shuttle looms, continues to expand, giving a boost to demand for high-quality yarn. Premier Looms Pvt Ltd, a leading manufacturer of shuttle weaving looms since 1976, holds 70 per cent market share in the region, ensuring efficient fabric production with minimal spare part requirements. Ashish Amin, Director at Premier Looms, emphasized their looms optimize production by reducing downtime and ensuring smooth fabric formation, which directly enhances yarn consumption efficiency.
With labor shortages prompting a shift to shuttle-less looms, Premier Looms launched India’s first indigenously developed Waterjet loom in 2022. This innovation allows simultaneous weaving of two narrow-width fabrics, enhancing yarn utilization and reducing power consumption by 10 per cent compared to Chinese machines.
Increased adoption of advanced looms has pushed up demand for specialized yarns, particularly for high-GSM fabrics. As Surat strengthens its position as India’s most cost-effective weaving hub, yarn suppliers are witnessing growing opportunities. Looking ahead, Premier Looms plans to introduce Airjet looms by 2026, further shaping the region’s textile future.
