Telangana government approves yarn depot in Sircilla

Telangana government has given the green light to establish a yarn depot in Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla district. This move aims to bolster the powerloom sector in the region and provide a reliable source of yarn for local weavers.
The decision came in response to a proposal from the Commissioner of Handlooms & Textiles and Apparel Export Parks, Hyderabad. The commissioner emphasized the critical need for a yarn depot in Sircilla, a major textile hub with a decentralized powerloom industry. Such a facility would streamline the procurement process and ensure a steady supply of yarn, benefiting both weavers and the local economy.
The Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Limited (TGSCO) has been designated as the nodal agency for the yarn depot. The government has also allocated a corpus fund of Rs 50 crore to support the depot's operations, including yarn procurement and maintenance of buffer stocks.
In a statement, Shailaja Ramaiyer, Principal Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, confirmed the government's approval for the yarn depot project. She highlighted the positive impact it would have on the livelihoods of countless weavers in the Sircilla region. The establishment of the yarn depot is expected to further strengthen Telangana's position as a leading textile hub in India. By providing a reliable and efficient supply chain, the government aims to foster growth and development in the powerloom sector.
