Textile park in Telegana’s Sircilla faces closure amidst rising costs and lack of support.

The Sircilla Textile Park Cloth Manufacturers Association plans to shut down operations on October 6 due to persistent financial losses and operational challenges. The decision was made during a general body meeting.

The textile park, located in the Baddenapalli area of Sircilla, houses 70 units that are struggling to pay electricity bills amid soaring costs and limited marketing opportunities. The association's president, Annaldas Anil Kumar, expressed concerns about the industry's viability, citing rising electricity rates (currently at Rs. 8 per unit), increasing raw material prices, and inadequate marketing facilities. As a result, garments worth nearly Rs 80 crore are currently unsold.

The textile park had previously received a power subsidy of Rs 15 crore from 2015 to 2020 under the BRS regime, which provided some relief. However, lack of continued support has made it unsustainable for the park to operate. Association secretary Ankarapu Kiran highlighted the disparity in electricity charges between Sircilla and Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, where the government charges only Rs 2 per unit. The closure of the Sircilla textile park is expected to lead to unemployment for over 1,000 workers, including skilled laborers from various states. The announcement has created a sense of anxiety and uncertainty among the industry's workforce.
