Tiruchi textile industry gets a boost with mini park scheme
Textile weavers in Tiruchi are set to benefit from a new initiative the ‘Mini Textile Park’ scheme. This program aims to streamline production and reduce costs by encouraging weavers to join clusters and share facilities. The idea is to have clusters of at least three companies, allowing smaller firms to access resources they might otherwise have to outsource. This collaborative approach is expected to create a thriving textile hub in the district.
The scheme offers financial assistance up to Rs 2.5 crore to participating entrepreneurs. Industry experts see this initiative as a game-changer, particularly for handloom weavers. By unifying operations, the Mini Textile Parks could significantly improve profitability.
An additional benefit is its focus on environmental issues. Unlike traditional textile production, the Mini Textile Parks will integrate effluent treatment facilities, addressing pollution concerns that have plagued other textile hubs.
However, there are challenges. P Rajappa, President, Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDTTSSIA) says, the requirement of procuring two acres of land might exclude many potential participants. He suggests a similar program for pooling resources among smaller engineering units, potentially transforming the region into a production hub.
Overall, the Mini Textile Park scheme presents a promising opportunity for Tiruchi’s textile sector. With increased collaboration, financial aid, and a focus on sustainability, the program has the potential to revitalize the industry and create a thriving textile hub in the district.
