Tiruppur garment makers seek stable cotton prices

Garment makers in South India especially Tiruppur have urged the government to stabilize cotton prices. They worry price fluctuations based on global trends could hurt the industry.  The South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association wants the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to sell cotton at steady prices, not influenced by global markets. This would benefit the entire textile supply chain, from spinners and weavers to garment manufacturers. The CCI is currently selling cotton directly to consumers, bypassing traders.

The Association also wants the government to watch cotton purchases by traders and allow them to export only after domestic needs are met.
