TN government approves new textile park for Chennimalai

The Tamil Nadu government is set to invest Rs 3 crore in a new mini handloom textile park in Chennimalai. The 1.5 acre facility aims to revitalize the local handloom industry.
This announcement came during the 10th National Handloom Day celebrations where authorities distributed Rs 75 lakh in welfare benefits to 45 weavers in Erode, the district also honored top weavers with awards totaling Rs 3 lakh,
Erode district is a major handloom hub, with 190 active societies producing goods worth Rs 250 crore annually. The district has also supplied 150 lakh school uniforms and is gearing up to produce 65 lakh Vetti or sarees under a government scheme.
Efforts to support the sector include skill development training for 40 weavers, medical camps, and financial assistance through Mudra loans. The government is also seeking central approval for a mega handloom cluster in the district.
