The Central government, has reinforced its support for Telangana’s cotton farmers by procuring large quantities of cotton at Minimum Support Price (MSP) amid declining market rates.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy noted the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has set up 110 procurement centers across Telangana, purchasing 210.19 lakh quintals of cotton worth Rs 15,556 crores in the 2024-25 crop year. Telangana, India’s third-largest cotton-producing state, has seen significant MSP procurement over the years. Since 2014-15, the Modi government has procured cotton worth over Rs 58,000 crores, while MSP rates have more than doubled from Rs 3,750 per quintal in 2014-15 to Rs 7,121 in 2024-25.

Beyond procurement, the government supports farmers through soil testing, quality seeds, fertilizers, loans, insurance, irrigation, and warehouses. The CCI intervenes whenever market prices fall below MSP, ensuring financial stability for farmers. The Modi government continues to fix MSPs for 22 crops, including cotton, keeping prices at least 50 per cent above production costs, reinforcing its commitment to farmers welfare.
