The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported a rise in cotton exports. Upland cotton sales, the most common variety, climbed 28 per cent with China and Vietnam leading the pack. China purchased 77,500 running bales (RB) of Upland cotton, while Vietnam bought 28,900 RB. Pakistan, Macau, and Mexico also saw increased purchases.
However, this week's Upland sales were still two per cent lower than the previous four-week average. Looking ahead, net sales for the 2024-2025 season also showed promise, rising 19 per cent from the prior week.
Vietnam and China were again top buyers, followed by Mexico, Indonesia, and Peru. Total exports reached 186,600 RB, with China, Turkey, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as primary destinations.
Pima cotton, a premium type, saw a significant increase as well. Net sales jumped 87 per cent from the previous week, driven by India (2,800 RB) and Peru (400 RB). Overall Pima exports reached 9,000 RB, up 12 per cent from the prior week. India, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, and Thailand were the major buyers.
This suggests a positive outlook for US cotton exports, particularly for Upland cotton in key markets like China and Vietnam. While there were slight dips compared to previous averages, the overall upward trend indicates strong demand.
