Uttar Pradesh to set up ‘Silk Exchange Center’ in Varanasi

Uttar Pradesh's weavers are set to gain easy access to global markets with the development of a marketing app that will connect them to online platforms. This initiative, aimed at promoting the silk industry in Varanasi, is part of a broader project by the Uttar Pradesh Sericulture Federation. The project includes the creation of a ‘Silk Exchange Center’ in Pandeypur, Varanasi, which will serve as a Common Facility Center to support local weavers.

Under the state's ODOP (One District, One Product) scheme, the State Level Committee, led by Director of Industries, Vijendra Pandian, has approved Rs 7 crore investment in this project.

A testing lab will also be established to verify the authenticity of pure silk, helping customers make informed purchases. A branding initiative for Uttar Pradesh's silk will be launched, accompanied by promotion through social media channels.

The online marketing portal and app will function similarly to major platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, offering a platform for Varanasi’s silk products to gain international recognition and boost sales.
