Uttar Pradesh is set to contribute significantly to India's goal of achieving Rs 9 lakh crore in textile exports by 2030, with a strong focus on yarn and fabric production. The state’s textile sector is deeply rooted in cities like Kanpur, once called the ‘Manchester of the East,’ and Varanasi and Mubarakpur, known for their silk weaving. Bhadohi and Mirzapur lead in carpet production, while Gautam Buddha Nagar has emerged as a key hub for readymade garments. The state’s renowned chikankari embroidery from Lucknow also plays a vital role.

To boost yarn and fabric manufacturing, the state government is developing multiple projects, including a 1,000-acre Mega Textile Park along the Lucknow-Hardoi border under the PM MITRA Yojana. Common Facility Centres are planned in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Mirzapur, and Bhadohi by 2025 to support local industries.

The Centre has also launched a Cotton Mission in the Union Budget, with Rs 500 crore allocated for the National Cotton Technology Mission to enhance cotton productivity and yarn quality. With new textile hubs planned near Jewar Airport and expressways, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a key player in India's expanding yarn and textile exports.
