Uzbekistan announces new export fees for cotton yarn and knitted fabric

Uzbekistan has updated export fees for cotton yarn and knitted fabric, from January 1, 2025. The changes are part of a decree by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev titled ‘On additional measures to ensure equal business conditions and create a fair competitive environment.’
The new regulations set the export fee for cotton yarn at 2 per cent of its export value per kilogram, capped at a maximum of $0.05 per kilogram. Additionally, knitted fabric exports will be subject to a fee of one per cent of the export value per kilogram.
These changes aim to promote fair competition and support the development of Uzbekistan’s textile industry. They replace the current flat export fee of $0.1 per kilogram, which has been in place since early 2023 for both cotton yarn and knitted fabric.
The revised fees are expected to encourage local value addition and strengthen the country’s competitive position in global textile markets. Industry stakeholders are preparing for the transition to the new system, which aligns with broader economic reforms underway in Uzbekistan. These measures reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to creating a balanced and fair environment for businesses.
