Warangal cotton market sees record procurement despite weather challenges

Warangal’s Enumamula Agricultural Market has witnessed a remarkable increase in cotton procurement this season, defying unfavorable weather conditions. Since the procurement began on October 3, the market has traded 9,38,841 quintals of cotton, already surpassing last season's total of 9,22,268 quintals. Compared to December last year, when 3,03,120 quintals were procured, this year saw private traders buying 1,93,260 quintals of loose cotton, while the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) procured a staggering 7,45,580 quintals.
This season’s procurement has exceeded last year’s by nearly 16,500 quintals, with two months still remaining. Officials anticipate a record-breaking total, pointing to strong production and high demand from both local buyers and the CCI.
The market’s income is expected to double compared to last year, driven by the unprecedented volume of cotton traded. The rise is being celebrated as a positive outcome despite earlier fears of reduced yields due to heavy rains in the district. Experts predict that Warangal’s cotton market will set new benchmarks, reflecting robust agricultural output and resilience in the face of challenging weather conditions.
