Woolmark celebrates 60 years with recycled wool push.
Woolmark is celebrating 60 years of certifying wool products by launching a new initiative focused on recycled wool. This marks the first time the Woolmark logo will be applied to recycled fibers. The new ‘Recycled Wool’ certification ensures products contain at least 20 per cent recycled wool, while still meeting Woolmark's existing quality standards. This initiative aligns with the industry's shift towards more sustainable practices.
Woolmark says wool is already the world's most recycled apparel fiber, and this new program aims to further reduce waste and pollution by promoting a circular production model. Products can include recycled wool from fabric scraps or even old garments.
This program highlights Woolmark's commitment to sustainability. By promoting the use of recycled wool in high-quality products, Woolmark hopes to minimize waste and get more use out of this valuable fiber.
John Roberts, Managing Director of The Woolmark Company, says wool is a rare fiber that only accounts for one per cent of the apparel market. This new initiative aims to change that by promoting the reuse and repurposing of wool, potentially opening up new categories for wool use.
Woolmark's Certification Program covers clothing, fabrics, yarns, and homeware products. Their logos denote the percentage of new wool in a product, ranging from 100 per cent pure new wool to wool blends.
