Xinjiang's annual cotton harvest in full swing.
Xinjiang, China's largest cotton-growing region is currently experiencing its annual cotton harvest. Known for its abundant sunshine and dry climate, the region produces over 80 per cent of China's total cotton output.
Due to the varying climates between northern and southern Xinjiang, the cotton-picking season extends until late October. Farmers like Ma Zhanhui are reporting promising yields, with some fields expected to produce over 500 kilograms of cotton per mu.
Xinjiang's unique cotton harvesting process involves a sequential progression from north to south. Wujiaqu City, a major cotton-producing hub, has witnessed a significant increase in cotton yield this year, surpassing last year's production by 12,000 tons.
Automated equipment is being widely used across Xinjiang's cotton fields, streamlining the harvesting process and increasing efficiency. As the harvest continues, the region's contribution to China's cotton industry remains substantial.
