The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is preparing for market intervention starting October 1 by opening a record 550 procurement centers in North India. This is aimed at supporting domestic farmers as cotton prices are expected to remain low due to record imports and weak demand. The CCI, which procured 1 crore bales last season, is liquidating its existing stock of 12 lakh bales to make way for the new crop

North India's cotton yarn prices have remained stable in major textile hubs like Delhi, Ludhiana, and Panipat, with subdued demand from the consumer industry keeping prices from shifting. Intended to boost the textile sector, the recent GST cut has had little immediate effect on cotton yarn prices.

Led by Neelam Shami Rao, a high-level Indian textile delegation, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, is currently on a visit to London to promote India’s entire textile supply chain and strengthen bilateral trade with the UK. Comprising representatives from all major Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and top exporters, the delegation aims to showcase India's competitive advantages, including its historic craftsmanship, modern manufacturing capabilities, and focus on sustainable practices.

India's textile industry has urged the government to reconsider imposing an anti-dumping duty (ADD) on Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG), a vital raw material for polyester staple fiber. The industry warns, ongoing shortage of MEG would worsen due to the duty, creating supply chain issues. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has issued a ‘Disclosure Statement,’ and a final government decision is expected soon.

The Maharashtra government has approved a special grant of Rs 36.4 crore as share capital for the Nilkanth Cooperative Spinning Mill in Akola. The decision was made as a ‘special case’ to revive the mill, which has been closed since 2008. The money is intended to give the necessary share capital to restart the mill's operations. This funding is crucial for the mill to attract bank loans and other financial assistance needed for its revival.

According to the latest issue of SBI Ecowrap newsletter, published by the State Bank of India (SBI), export-oriented sectors, including textiles, leather, and chemicals, are expected to feel revenue and margin pressures in Q2, FY26 due to the new US tariffs.
