India’s daily cotton arrivals reached 1,07,600 bales on February 13, 2025 says the Cotton Association of India (CAI). The cumulative arrivals for the season now stand at 1,93,17,300 bales. Maharashtra led arrivals with 47,000 bales, followed by Gujarat at 27,100 bales. Telangana reported 8,500 bales, while Madhya Pradesh and North India recorded 8,000 and 9,300 bales, respectively. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha saw lower arrivals, ranging from 700 to 3,000 bales.

Turkey's synthetic yarn exports fell 4 per cent to 106K tons in 2024, marking the third straight year of decline. Despite fluctuations, the overall trend remained relatively stable. The highest growth occurred in 2021, when exports surged 36 per cent to a peak of 131K tons. However, since 2022, exports have struggled to regain momentum.

Cotton yarn prices have edged up to Rs 53,610, driven by shifting global supply dynamics. Brazil’s cotton output for 2024-25 is now projected at 3.79 million tonnes, lower due to reduced planting. Meanwhile, India’s cotton production estimate has increased to 304.25 lakh bales, with Telangana’s output revised upward to 42 lakh bales, a 6 lakh bale jump, according to the Cotton Association of India (CAI).

The Union government announced a five-year ‘Cotton Productivity Mission’ in the Budget to support cotton farmers, but there is no sign of the promised textile park in Amravati, Congress national spokesperson Atul Londhe says. He accused the BJP of making empty promises and failing to deliver on commitments to Vidarbha’s farmers.

Viscose and polyester-cotton (PC) yarn prices in India remain stable across key textile hubs like Mumbai and Surat, reflecting steady market conditions. However, the polyester yarn market in Ludhiana is experiencing price fluctuations due to seasonal shifts in demand, affecting textile sector production dynamics.Meanwhile, cotton prices in northern India have edged higher, influenced by firm trends in ICE cotton futures. This increase is driving up raw material costs for spinning mills, leading to adjustments in local yarn demand.

Gujarat emerged as India’s top cotton producer in 2023-24, recording 9.05 million bales (170 kg each), the Government informed Parliament. Maharashtra followed with 8.04 million bales, while Telangana produced 5.08 million bales. In fact, Telangana remains India's third-largest cotton producer but the state’s cotton output fell to 50.80 lakh bales in 2023-24, down from 57.45 lakh bales in the previous season. However, it was still higher than the 48.78 lakh bales recorded in 2021-22.
