German chemical major BASF has launched the world’s first commercial-scale plant for loopamid, a fully recycled polyamide 6 made entirely from textile waste.

India’s textile industry is expected to rebound in FY25 after two years, pushed up by stable cotton prices, improving readymade garment (RMG) exports, and steady domestic demand. The recovery bodes well for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which form 80 per cent of the textile value chain.

Georgia cotton producers have voted to continue the $1 per bale assessment that funds the Georgia Cotton Commission’s research, promotion, and education programs. In the 2025 referendum held from February 10 to March 12, 87.83 per cent of voters supported the measure, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Finnish cellulose fibre producer Spinnova has appointed its co-founder Janne Poranen, as CEO. He replaces Tuomas Oijala, who stepped down in early March. Poranen, who has a PhD in Physics, previously led Spinnova from 2014 to 2022 before serving as chairman. He now aims to scale up fibre production and improve profitability.

ICE cotton futures rose for the second straight session, due to weak US dollar and improved shipments. The May 2025 cotton contract settled at 67.07 cents per pound, gaining 1.39 cents, while the December contract closed 100 points higher at 70.29 cents. The Central government, has reinforced its support for Telangana’s cotton farmers by procuring large quantities of cotton at Minimum Support Price (MSP) amid declining market rates.
